Meet our Audiologist
Shantell D. Lewis, M.S., CCC-A, FAAA joined Advanced Otolaryngology in January 2007. She graduated from Virginia Union University in 1999 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Biology. In 2002, Ms. Lewis received her Masters Degree in Audiology from Howard University in Washington, DC. She completed her clinical fellowship at the Fairfax County Health Department in Northern Virginia. Ms. Lewis is currently working on her Doctorate of Audiology Degree. (AuD)
Ms. Lewis has been involved with auditory research and has obtained several research fellowships during her undergraduate, graduate and post graduate career. These studies include the effects of loud noise exposure on axonal endings in the cochlear nucleus (University of Connecticut, Department of Neuroscience), hearing aids (MCV) and hearing knowledge and noise exposure in children (School of Public Health, Howard University).
Ms. Lewis has one research publication and enjoys writing articles pertaining to hearing loss. She has presented her research on a local and national level. In 2007, Ms. Lewis was a presenter at the American Academy of Audiology Convention on servicing underserved and multicultural populations in audiology and her research poster on hearing knowledge in children. She was invited back by the board to serve as a moderator regarding the same topics in April 2008.
Ms. Lewis has a special interest in pediatric audiology, hearing disorders and advocacy for those who suffer from hearing loss. She is a member of the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association, the American Academy of Audiology and SHAV. Ms. Lewis is dually licensed as an audiologist and hearing aid dispenser in the state of Virginia.
